“The truth about kids and the martial arts” Ninety five percent of all situations that physically threaten children can be avoided simply by being aware. That a small child could actually cause major physical damage to an adult attacker by using martial arts techniques is highly unlikely. However, it is quite possible for a child to learn the awareness necessary to avoid most potential trouble spots, as well as techniques which may allow him/her to defend against an assault long enough to break free and escape. At BCI, our youth classes not only teach self-defense but we also stress the importance of self-discipline that will develop a strong character. Self-discipline is the foundation of building a successful and productive life. Attributes that a sound martial arts program will create or enhance are; honesty, integrity, self-respect, respect for others, self-control, concentration, co-ordination, and self-confidence. "The Evolution of Mixed Martial Arts" ARNIS DE MANO {KALI}
Philipines. Originally known as Kali, arnis centers around three distinct phases; stick, blade, and empty hand combat. As a fighting art, arnis has three forms of play: espada y daga (sword and dagger); solo baston (single stick) in which a single stick made of ratan cane is employed; and sinawali (double sticks), a native term applied because the intricate movements of the two muton (sticks) resemble the crisscross weave of a sawali, a pattern used in walling and matting. Students learn the commonality in training as they become proficient in every fighting range while utilizing the blade, stick or empty hand.
